The Five-In-Snuff, or "The Snuff Gods", are a collection of gods worshiped by those who see the infliction of pain on others as an opportunity for self-examination, going so far as to call their victims "mirrors".

Description

They are among the most hated faith. According to Mercer all they do is "pick the living to pieces". These gods are the focus of "The Carving Chapter", led by Reverend Toes. Each member of the faith are given a body part as part of their rituals. They have no official saints or angels.

The Snuff Gods

"The Carving Chapter" mentions five gods, but only describes three of them, as follows:

• The Filthy Child That Cries - "You may catch the curved, blade-like silhouette of the Filthy Child That Cries out of the corner of your eye, and you’ll feel the spark of schadenfreude awaken in you - the impish delight and joy at our looking-glass’s writhing pain."
• The Bold Adventurer - "Perhaps you’ll see The Bold Adventurer doffing his hat towards you, and you’ll discover within yourself a burning new curiosity, a desire to experiment, to push the boundaries of agonising dis-assembly further than ever before."
• The Sobbing Sister - "Perhaps you’ll see The Sobbing Sister, foetal and fragile, her eyes melting in tears of bluest flame - and you’ll discover empathy within you, feeling each cut to the flesh of the looking-glass as if it had been administered to you. And there’s no shame in that. No shame - although she may be the least of our gods."

In "A Book of Gods and Territories," the gods are altered, including:

• The Child That Cries - Empathy

• The Child That Grins - Schadenfreude

• Augur of the Wild Eyes and Clicking Knives - Wonder

• Hierophant of the Calm Eyes and Still Blades - Wisdom

• The Great Adventurer - Curiosity

Organization

The worshippers of the Snuff Gods are known as the Carving Chapter. The Carving Chapter is led by Alan Grassley, who goes by "Reverend Toes". Each member of the faith are given a body part as part of their rituals. They have no official saints or angels. According to Mercer all they do is "pick the living to pieces".

Hymns

Reverend Toes before the Carving Ritual:

"Your pain is my pain. My eyes are your eyes. I am naked on a gurney, and you will look down upon me - and watch me come apart. In my collapse, you will build anew."

Reverend Toes to the Carving Chapter before they face Mercer and Gage:

"And if we die in pain today - may our suffering enlighten our slaughterers."

Reverend Toes before his death:

"May you come to know yourself better in my pain."
